May 13 through May 24 30, 2021
The announcement that we will not be able to organize a "normal" 49th "100 km van Ieper" this year on May 14, 15 and 16, will probably not surprise you. After all, the covid-19 figures have continued to go up and down in recent months and the vaccination campaign has also had a hesitant start. All things that make it impossible to organize a classic three-day walking tour on the weekend of Ascension Day.
However, we will not throw the towel this year… We have developed a NEW "covid-safe" formula for this year in recent months.
The 49th edition of our "100 km of Ypres" will be held from Thursday, May 13th until Monday, May 24, 2021 under the name "100 km "around" Ypres".
From Ypres and the 10 sub-municipalities, everyone will be able to walk in loop form over distances of 8 to more than 40 km. We have mapped out 5 loops in eight shape of ± 20km. Each loop of 20 km also consists of 2 smaller loops of about 10 km that can also be stepped separately. Ideal for less experienced walkers, families with children and disabled people.
The 11 starting places are located near the church / village square in every Ypres borough (St-Jan, Zillebeke, Hollebeke, Voormezele, Dikkebus, Vlamertinge, Elverdinge, Brielen, Boezinge, Zuidschote) and on the Fenix where a large 100km cone will indicate the starting place. All courses will be permanently signposted from May 13 (Ascension Day) to May 24. The courses will also be available in GPX format and can also be downloaded via our website with a QR code.
There is no need to register at all and each walker can freely determine when, where and which loop he / she wishes to walk. All in all, more than 100 km of hiking trails will be signposted. A number of loops of 20km touch each other so that enthusiasts can also walk ± 40km. You can also run the course
It will be a 12-day non-binding "free" formula without registrations, supplies ... but with the focus on walking in and "around" Ypres. The challenge is of course to get rid of all loops in 12 days!
